Happy New Year

Well happy new year everyone! Eeeeyow! Do you realize that we're almost finished with January 2007?

Time flies whether you're having fun or not! And I promise you that the older you get, the faster it seems to fly by. Don't waste one precious moment of it.

Maybe that's really why I always seem to be running late. Or maybe it's really just because I'm so optimistic. HONESTLY! I always think I can make time to do just one more thing before leaving. I never think traffic is going to be bad, I'll be able to zoom right to the door! There will never be a parking problem for me. I'll never have a flat tire. Whatever.

Of course I must also admit that I procrastinate. For example: I FINALLY mailed the last batch of Christmas gifts Friday. And yes, it's still mostly because of my never ending optimism, and my enthusiasm for giving. I always leave the box open because I just know that I will find just one more gift to put in the box before I mail it. That means that when I'm getting ready to leave the house I realize that while I might have time to do one more thing (like turn on the dishwasher, or dryer or something) I really don't have time to look on the shelf in the storage container to see where that one more gift (the one I bought in October) is hiding, and I certainly don't have time to seal up that box and address it so I can take it to the Post Office. Of course I eventually give up on finding that extra gift I bought and send the box anyway, like I did Friday morning.

OK, ok. You're right! The truth is that not only does the time fly by more quickly as I grow older, so does my ability to remember things.

My brother and I must think even more alike that I've realized because I got a birthday card from him last week, even though my birthday isn't until September, just two days after his. But he wrote in the card that he'd found this great card (and it really is a great card - something about prune juice making you dance) at Cracker Barrell and knew he'd better go ahead and send it because if he put it away somewhere he'd never find it to send it in September.

You gotta love that family resemblence!

Are you a Karma Cop?

Are you a Karma Cop? Are you one of "those" people who think that the phrase "you will reap what you sow" means that you have to treat people they way they treat you, as opposed to treating them the way you'd like for them to treat you? One of those people who believes it is your duty in life to teach people all the lessons YOU think they need to learn? Have you looked in the mirror lately?

I had a conversation with my daughter last night about this. She was telling me how she was going to blah blah blah someone because they blah blah blah'd her. You know what I mean, right? I told her to go into the bathroom and look in the mirror and tell me what she saw there. She got the picture - it's not as if we haven't had this conversation before.
"I know, I know," she said. "When someone does something you don't approve of, you can't change their behavior. You can only make sure you don't behave in the same way."

Bingo daughter-of-mine. You were listening.

Have a happy, healthy weekend y'all!

More Rain . . .

Guess I can only post when it rains. Or when my niece reminds me that I haven't updated for a long time.

We still have the house in TX and still go down there every weekend to do all those maintenance type tyings (like yardwork, vacuum, dust etc) that have to be done even to a house that sits empty all week. Then, of course, we are still trying to finish up the one major remodeling project we started so long ago, but never had the time to finish, and all thouse thousand little things that you have to do to get a house ready for sale. It all takes time and money and energy, and we're running out of all three.

And of course it's football season, so if the Cowboys are playing, we're busy! Well, at least that is how I'd prefer it. The trut is we rarely get to watch an entire game. But a girl can dream!

Hey, the good news is that we've had just over 3" of rain this weekend. You have to understand that we've had only fractions of an inch of rain since May this year, and that things have been so dry that it's affecting the local economy. Ranchers have been selling off their livestock because there is no grass or hay, and no water for them. And the dust! Oh my goodness.

We've been working up here in SE OK for 2 years now. Time flies - whether you are having fun or not! So make good use of it while you have it!

Something's Burning

At least we got some rain last night - I think 3/10" Amazing how good even that little bit of rain feels. Of course now all the other country bumpkins are taking this opportunity to burn their trash so it felt like we were in a 3rd-world country driving to work this morning. Ewwww, stinky.

Which set me to thinking about how much trash we create in a day. I try to be responsible with my trash. I don't buy aluminum cans, and rarely use aluminum foil. And when I lived in a metropolitan area and it was easy to do I recycled glass and cans and paper regularly. I still recycle newspaper because I have a place to take it. I don't burn! We are allowed to use the dumpster at work, so that is where we bring our trash. And I do compost, so anything organic goes into the composter.

But I feel negligent throwing away my cans and glass and magazines. If I had a place to store them, I might save the magazines to make paper mache, or other homemade paper products. But I don't have space, nor the time to work on that project. Sigh.
I believe God did give us the responsibility to care for the earth and the creatures on it - including each other.

Random thoughts . . . .

what goes around, comes around - so be careful what you put into the mix

it's really fun to watch horse babies frolic in the meadow

I still want to get my bachelor's degree - even if it takes the rest of my life

this really HOT weather we are having kind of sucks
we need rain - the trees are turning brown

Getting that old age vision problem is really quite bothersome!

Post/Pre Holiday Stress Syndrone

I have it! Not to mention "still moving" stress. Still, I know it will all come together soon.
